Clare CYPSC is guided in its work by Better Outcomes Brighter Futures, The National Policy Framework for Children and Young People 2014 – 2020. Our work is structured around the five national outcomes for children and young people as outlined in our national framework.

Rice College is part of the Edmund Rice family of schools, following the pillars of the ERST Charter. It was founded in 1827, with the present school building opening in 1937.
The Monastery next door opened in 1869, which has housed the Christian Brothers to the present day. Originally an all-boys school, Rice College became co-educational in 1997. The school has a full complement of staff, including administration and caretaking, with 700+ students.

All music students in Rice College get the opportunity to learn the ukulele.
In TY we have a great emphasis on inviting guest musicians into our school to share their expertise on ukulele, guitar and drumming.
If you have musical talent, we will do everything possible to help you enjoy it and to progress your talents further!
This is only a limited selection of projets left in the room as most have been taken home by students.
Junior cert projects this year were left unfinished due to covid 19.
Block printing, or Lino printing, is one of the many crafts art students learn in Rice College.
Students design an image that they would like to print, transfer the design onto a piece of lino and begin to cut the image away using lino cutting tools.
When finished cutting the desired area, the lino is then inked up and a print taken from it. These are some examples of student's lino prints completed here in the art room.
Art is a very popular subject here in Rice College. It is offered at both Junior Cycle and Senior Cycle, with several of our students going on to Art College each year.
It is a subject where students get to develop their creativity, and develop a world of endless possibilities. In our art classes in Rice College we learn the fundamentals of art, placing strong emphasis on observation drawing.
These are only a small selection of drawings completed by students. Students organise and manage their own folders, which is part of their assessment.
Students engage in many design activities and challenges in this subject, and use graphics to present their ideas and concepts.
Every year the Music and Art Departments in Rice College collaborate on designing the poster for the highlight of the Musical Calendar—our annual School Concert in Glór.
This is always a momentous occasion, where families come together with us to celebrate the talents of their sons and daughters, as they tread the boards in Glór with their musical talents, singing, dancing, acting(!), pop rock, classical, traditional—we have it all!

On arrival to Rice College each day you will come here, sort out your books and get ready to go to class.

Music technology plays an important role in both the New Junior Cert Music Cycle and the Leaving Certificate Music course.
Students compose their own new music on a variety of programs, and we had Music Generation Workshops on technology in music for our 2nd year music students and TY students this year.
On display in this location is Leaving Cert projects from this year’s groups. Students undertake a project by designing there own brief.
Generally, students choose between furniture projects or architectural models. This project is worth 25% of work in the Leaving Cert.
This is one of our three Science labs. Science is about being curious about our surroundings and always asking ‘Why?’
Different areas of Science include: Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Astronomy and Geology.
Throughout your years in Rice College, we will be performing experiments and developing your investigative skills using some of the equipment shown here.
Many of our students are also wonderful piano players. Up to 50% can be based on a student’s practical for Leaving Cert Music and 30% for the New Junior Cycle Music, so our students excel at this activity every year.
Choir takes place at lunchtime weekly also. The interest in singing in Rice College is phenomenal and students delight in taking part in Choir, especially the performances they give throughout the year in the wider community and at school.
Students love the social interaction and all levels are always welcome in all our activities in the Rice College Music Department.

Tools and equipment is located all around the room. One locker could be opened and the tools displayed on the desk if so wished.
These posters include work from Graphics, Construction and Woodwork.
This set-up allows us to investigate laws developed by famous scientists, such as Robert Hooke and Georg Ohm.
It is important to emphasise how important Health and Safety is when performing experiments, so we have procedures in place to follow.
This is the Rice college Audio Visual Suite that’s is used for senior cycle students.
County Clare is famous worldwide for its traditional Irish music, dance and song. The students of Rice College excel in this field.
We have a large number of our student body who are gifted traditional musicians. Our Trad Group meet once a week at lunchtime to learn new tunes and arrangements.
This is hugely popular among students and they love meeting other students with similar interests. We perform at concerts, nursing homes, and many community events in the surrounding areas of Ennis, all year round.
Our students give of their time and talents, and delight in entertaining their audiences.
As you look around the room, you can see the computers are equipped with the most up-to-date technology needed for all the different subjects.
Creating art in 3D is another skill our student learns. These are examples from Junior Cycle students.
Students will get to use clay, cardboard construction, plaster and wire. The clay we use in the art room is air-drying clay.
Our Art Department has been very successful in the Junk Kouture competition. We entered it for the firsttime last year with “Rustic Goddess”, and made it to the Grand Finale.
With close to 1,400 entries last year, the lucky 80 grand finalists got to strut their stuff and showcase their bespoke and striking works of wearable and recycled art. This year, our creation also reached the grand final of the competition, fighting off stiff competition in the regionals.
The grand final is due to take place in the 3Arena in Dublin this Autumn. This year's entry is called “Do Your Own Sting”. Our Junk Kouture outfit was inspired by bees and their habitats. We wanted to raise awareness about the rapid decline in the population of bees, not only in Ireland, but in the world. 1/3 of bees are in danger of extinction.
Our skirt was influenced by the shape of a beehive, with arrow patterns. A dripping honeycomb effect was added at the back. Our shoulder piece has been covered in flowers, representing their missing food source. Junk Kouture is a project undertaken by TY Art students at Rice College.
Welcome to one of our three newly refurbished Computer Rooms.
ICT is an integral part of teaching and learning in Rice College. Many subjects—such as Technical Graphics and Music—rely heavily on ICT, and at Rice College we ensure that the best of facilities are available to students.
Students have timetabled classes of computers throughout their time in Rice College allowing them to develop a range of computer skills that they will use in the future.
We use different models to describe and explain the biological systems.
Experiments like this one help us to separate substances
All our students use a sketchbook throughout their time in the Art Department. A sketchbook is a book or pad with blank pages for sketching, and is frequently used by artists for drawing or painting as a part of their creative process.
You can see how the students have taken their ideas and developed it, trying out lots of different media. Students are encouraged to be as creative as possible and to develop their own art style.
Weather permitting, we sometimes take our learning outdoors and sketch our rich local environment.
